Maria Kerassioti

Maria Kerassioti was born in Athens where she studied ceramics 1957-1961, and, through a scholarship, in FlorenceItaly 1961-62.

She taught ceramics, as a volunteer, for 19 years at the High-security Closed Prison of Alikarnassos, Crete. Between the years 1994 and 2000, she taught at the Athens Campus Arts and Sciences College.

She is a member of the International Cultural Federation of Women and the Greek Chamber of Fine Arts.

Her works can be found in galleries, museums and private collections all over the world. She has published three books of poetry, two novels, articles and essays in newspapers and magazines in Greece and abroad. She has also given many lectures about ceramics in various institutions.

She has presented her work at 15 solo exhibitions, and numerous group ones throughout the world. She has been awarded 14 national and international prizes. In 2003, she was awarded the international prize, Viaggio Atraverso la Ceramica (Italy), Ceramist of the year 2003, for a life achievement.

Presently she serves as Councilor for Ceramics at the Municipality of the Olympic City of Amaroussion and she runs its ceramics collection in order to create a museum.
