Ceramic arts and potentials
The city of Burnaby has its art focus mostly on two fronts in my option: paper based arts and ceramic arts. If your art interests happen to be on one of those two areas or both, then you are pretty much at the right place to pursue further advancements of your crafts.
It is smart to collect the paper based artwork in the modern days since it is somewhat eco-friendly and requires less storage space for the collections if compared with other art forms. At the worst case event when the city is about to get bankrupted, you might get some cash back by recycling these used paper at least.
For the ceramic arts, according to Burnaby Potter’s Guide or through your own in person investigation, you might be soon to find out that Burnaby is indeed well equipped with all sorts of necessary hardware for potters with different skill levels.
Nowadays, the ceramic arts can have more intimated interaction with the audiences since the modern ceramic art can be integrated with the interior and exterior of the building very nicely. The ceramic artworks are no longer just in the format of pots, plates, or cups etc. They can be in the form of decorative murals, sculptures, or even sound & audio enhancement materials etc.
In a lecture delivered by Mr. Zhu Legen(朱乐耕), it is glad to hear that the ceramic arts, which might be a form of root art that could be dated back from the pre-history time, are taking new forms as the development of modern ceramic-art-making technologies and new minds grasped by the new generation of ceramic artists, and not just potters.
As a Chinese, I feel proud that the ceramic arts, from which the English word ‘chine’ is derived, are making new histories at their country of origin and for the rest of the world.
