A vessel with a bottom serves as a store of matter, while a tube hollow at both ends serves as a transport of matter. The flow of energy is connected from one point to another, from microscopic human blood vessels to macroscopic city roads, and all the way to submarine cable that connect us together.
Taoxichuan Art Centre is pleased to welcome Norwegian artist Torbjørn Kvasbø to give a lecture entitled "Between the Possible and the Impossible" on Wednesday 12 April 2023 at 7pm in the lecture hall of the Taoxichuan flagship store and will be broadcast live on the Taoxichuan Art Center Education platform. At the same time, the exhibition "Incarnate - A Solo Exhibition of Torbjørn Kvasbø" will be opened on 23 April at the Ceramic Art Aveune Art Gallery.
During this lecture, Torbjørn Kvasbø will be sharing his creative experiments with different clays, materials and ceramic processes that he has been working on over the past few years. He chose the Migratory Bird Residency Project at the Taoxichuan Art Center because of the abundance of ceramic resources and the inspiring creative atmosphere in Jingdezhen. Throughout the two-month residency, he has been experimenting with high white porcelain clay and testing Celadon glaze and Copper red glazes, with the goal of completing up to twelve pieces.
This lecture is intended to be an open and interactive sharing session, where audience are encouraged to ask questions and engage at any point.

Torbjørn Kvasbø resides in an ancient Norwegian village, where traditional features like wooden fences and hay stacks serve as sources of inspiration for him. He has a firm belief in the limitless opportunities provided by the language of clay and often strives to establish strong connections between materials, techniques, and shapes to create his own understanding of meaning.
Torbjørn's Tube sculpture draws inspiration from the prototype of blood vessels and its historical significance. He views bodily fluids as representative of both life and impermanence. The classic cylindrical spiral shape of vessels is evocative of a human body, a three-dimensional form that embodies human posture and mental states. As clay is his primary material, the resistance he encounters during experimentation and production is akin to the difficulties encountered by the human system. His works provide an outlet for him to narrate stories about his life in the village.
