古往今来,社会议题中不乏艺术的参与。在漫长的历史长河里,艺术创作者们力求反应当下,通过艺术将观点、情绪、态度带给大众。柏拉图和亚里士多德说到,“模仿”——艺术创作的行为与现实世界的概念密不可分,在现实世界中,艺术代表着对于现实的态度或更确切的说是对社会现实中美、真、善定义的争论。
Adriel 雕刻类作品
艺术范畴的定义是由艺术家主观诠释的。它属于一个独立的创作环境,不受规则、功能和规范的约束,但另一方面,艺术世界与作品制作、策展和展示方式以及社会经济条件和政治背景有着紧密的联系。
Hence, position of the art sphere is semi-autonomous, as it is independent field of creation freed from the rules, function and norms, but on the other hand, art world is deeply connected and dependent from artistic production, ways of curating and display as well as socio-economical conditions and political context.
陶溪川·景德镇国际工作室线上讲座本期邀请到中央美术学院及阿尔佛雷德大学客座教授,Adriel Tong。于2021年6月2日晚上8点,在陶溪川国际教育—国际云讲座平台带来主题为《让我们通过泥土发声》(Social Clay, Social Me.)的讲座。
Taoxichuan·Jingdezhen International Studio is very honoured to invite Visiting professor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and Alfred University, Adriel Tong. The title of this week’s lecture is " Social Clay, Social Me". The lecture will be held on Wednesday 20:00(BST), 2nd, June, at Taoxichuan International Education Program —— Master Online Lecture.
讲座中,Adriel 会结合自己的成长环境和经历,讲述他是如何通过使用泥土材料传递自己对社会议题以及现象的观点。讲座过程中,他还将介绍他为陶溪川线上平台制作的线上课程——“跳脱传统:实验性陶瓷设计”,课程中他将介绍如何选取日常的自然形态作为陶瓷造型元素,进行解构重组,设计出别出心裁的陶瓷产品。

Adriel Tong
中央美术学院及阿尔佛雷德大学客座教授
Adriel 出生于美国旧金山,年幼时期移居到中国香港。从小对于艺术有着极高敏感度的他,时刻都保持着饱满的创作欲望。12岁时,他开始迷恋雕刻石膏图章,忘我的练习曾一度让他的左手瘫痪。自那时起,他内心萌发出对创作的向往。
Adriel was born in San Francisco, USA, and moved to Hong Kong, China when he was a young boy. He has been extremely sensitive to art since childhood and has always maintained a full desire for creation. At the age of 12, he became obsessed with carving plaster stamps. He got so devoted to this practice that once his left hand got paralyzed. Since then, his inner pursuit of creation has begun to sprout.

Adriel 的成长环境横跨了东西两个半球,成长中不同文化间的教育差异也时刻影响着他的艺术创作。他在香港接受了小学到初中的基础教育,前往美国后,由于教育模式不同,Adriel 与同龄人之间隔着一层文化差异,再加上,当时生活节奏和语言交流方面的障碍,使他在青春时期曾一度饱受情绪低落的困扰。
Adriel's growth environment crossed the eastern and western hemispheres, and along with the educational differences between different cultures during his growth, his artistic creation has been constantly influenced. He received basic education from elementary school to junior high school in Hong Kong. After he went to the United States, due to the difference in education mode, there was a cultural difference between Adriel and his peers. In addition, due to the obstacles in language communication and pace of life, he was much troubled by depression in his youth.

毕业后,Adriel 开始踏足艺术领域,在较为自由环境中,他尝试着用不同形式的艺术表达自己的情感。这一时期他的创作灵感大多来源于他两种不同文化环境下的成长背景。
After graduation, Adriel began to set foot in the field of art. In a relatively free environment, he tried to express his emotions in different forms of art. Most of his creative inspirations during this period came from his growth background in two different cultural environments.

Adriel 热衷于通过作品来讨论社会事件和政治热点。他明白自己既不是社会极端主义者,也不是集权的政客。艺术家的角色使他可以开放式的讨论这些议题,作为个体进行清晰的观察,并以个人的观点进行回应。
Adriel is keen to discuss social events and political hotspots through his works. He declares himself to be neither a social extremist nor a centralized politician. His role of an artist allows him to discuss these issues in an open manner, to make clear observations as an individual and respond with his own point of view.

艺术创作者的责任感,使他不断地在视觉层面做加法的装饰。同时,在基督教义的约束下,他保持着真实、客观的观点输出。
The sense of responsibility as an artist makes him continue to make additional decorations on the visual level. Meanwhile, under the constraints of Christian doctrine, a true and objective output of opinions has always been expected.

在思考当今艺术的作用时,我们必须意识到艺术与生活、艺术与媒体、艺术与社会以及艺术与行动主义之间虚幻的边界。在当代社会,政治艺术重要的是要抛弃浪漫主义的艺术使命愿景,但同时坚持对艺术内部主导政治的不断质疑,维护和争取艺术固有的言论和表达自由。
When thinking about the role of art nowadays, we must be aware of the imaginary boundary between art and life, art and media, art and society, as well as art and activism. In contemporary society, it is important for political art to abandon the romantic vision of artistic mission, but at the same time insist on the continuous questioning of the dominant politics of art, thus maintaining and striving for the inherent freedom of speech and expression in art.

The role of political art has always been crucial because it is a rare liberating force that is not corroded, and it is also a key battlefield for arguing about what is beauty, truth, and goodness.

Adriel 在东西方文化交融的环境滋养下,产出的作品不仅有着深厚中国传统美学色彩,还有着强烈个人意识形态的象征性表现。这些视觉符号使他的受众更能真切的了解到他作品背后的情绪,用知识帮助他人,并始终相信创造带来的积极力量。
Being nourished by the environment where Eastern and Western cultures blend, Adriel's works not only has a deep foundation of traditional Chinese aesthetics, but also symbolic expressions of a strong personal ideology. These visual symbols enabled his audiences to truly understand the emotions behind his works, use knowledge to help others, and always believe in the positive power of creation.
