Taoxichuan·Jingdezhen International Studio is very pleased to invite Canadian British artist, Philip Read. The titled of this week's lecture is " In the Realm of the Unconscious ". The lecture will be held on Wednesday, March 24, at Taoxichuan International Education Program -- Master Online Lecture.本期讲座中，菲利普会介绍他创作的过程以及概念框架。其间，他将具体阐述“无意识领域“在他的作品创作和设计过程中的重要性。In this lecture Philip Read will introduce the process and concepts of his artwork.He will explain and show how the ‘realm of the unconscious’ is crucial to the design and development of his artwork.
Philip 出生在英国，一个充满神话和传奇的神秘之地，他拥有绘画专业的艺术硕士学位；跨学科艺术的艺术学士学位以及微生物学方向的化学工程学位。他的作品被各国，如美国、加拿大、土耳其、英国、中国、意大利和日本等的博物馆及个人收藏。
Phil was born in England, a land and culture of myths, legends and the mystical. He has an M.F.A. in Studio Painting and a B.F.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts. He also has a degree in Chemical Engineering with a Major in Microbiology. Phil's paintings are in museums and private collections in USA, Canada, Turkey, England, China, Taiwan, Italy and Japan.
他游历各国以探寻不同文化中的神话和意识形态，山川、大海、河流和瀑布皆是他作品的灵感来源。
He has traveled to many countries in search of experiencing the myths and spirit of diverse cultures. The mountains, oceans, rivers and waterfalls still inspire his compositions.
他深入探索3D绘画的创作手法，借助高新技术加强视觉效果；又以颜色、符号、标志、光影、声音和诗歌作为创作母体渲染画作，借用这些符号挖掘无意识领域中人类文明的进程。
He continues to explore the concept of 3d paintings with the aid of technology to enhance the visual effect. Symbols and signs create narratives beyond language and each person can read the compositions specific to their own culture and life experience. It is a form of visual story telling.
在弗洛伊德的精神分析理论中，人的精神意识被分为意识、前意识、无意识三层。无意识成份是指那些在通常情况下根本不会进入意识层面的东西，比如，内心深处被压抑而无从意识到的欲望，秘密的想法和恐惧等。In Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory of personality, he delineated the mind in three distinct levels: the preconscious, the conscious mind and the unconscious mind. The unconscious contains contents that would usually stay outside of our conscious awareness, such as secret thoughts, fears, or unobservable desires that are suppressed deep in heart.
无意识变成意识是一种创造过程。荣格认为，从古代起，这一过程的创造意义就是英雄神话的主题。这些英雄们具有超乎常人的品质，抗争并击垮企图消灭自己的黑暗势力。其行动的象征意义在于，人类被精神再生的欲望所驱使，进行艰苦而冒险的征战，企图征服无意识的致命的吸引，实现新生活和新光明。荣格说，英雄的升华意味着光明的更新，因此表明了意识从黑暗（即回归到无意识）中获得再生。
The transition from unconsciousness to consciousness is a creative process. Carl. Jung believed that since ancient times, the creative meaning of this process has been the theme of heroic mythology. Those heroes have extraordinary qualities, fighting against and defeating the dark forces that are trying to destroy themselves. The symbolic meaning of their actions is that human beings are driven by the desire for spiritual regeneration to carry out arduous and adventurous battles in an attempt to conquer the deadly attraction of the unconscious mind and realize a brand-new life. Jung said that the sublimation of heroes means the renewal of light, showing that by returning to unconsciousness, consciousness is reborn from darkness.
荣格还提出，在集体无意识的内容中包含了人类往昔岁月的所有生活经历和生命进化的漫长历程。他说，精神的个人层终结于婴儿最早记忆，而它的集体层却包含着前婴儿前期，即祖先生活的残余。
Jung also proposed that the content of the collective unconsciousness contains all the life experiences of human beings in the past years and the long course of life evolution. He said that the individual layer of the spirit ends in the infant's earliest memory, while its collective layer contains the remnants of the pre-infant period, which refers to the life of our ancestors.
符号学是研究符号的学说，符号是被认为携带意义的感知。意义必须用符号才能表达，符号的用途是表达意义。反过来说：没有意义可以不用符号表达，也没有不表达意义的符号。没有意义的表达和理解，人的思想乃至“人化”的世界都无法存在，因为我们只有用符号才能思想，或者说，思想也是一个产生并且接收符号的过程。因此，认识论、语意学、逻辑学、现象学、解释学、心理学，都只涉及意义活动的一个方面，而符号学是对意义的全面讨论。Semiotics is the study of signs. Signs are perceptions that are thought to carry meaning. Meaning can only be expressed by signs, and the purpose of signs is to express meaning. On the other hand: if there is no meaning, it can be expressed without signs, and there is no sign that does not express meaning. Without the expression and understanding of meanings, Either Human thoughts or the "humanized" world can ever exist, because we can only think with symbols. In other words, thinking is also a process of generating and receiving symbols. Therefore, epistemology, semantics, logic, phenomenology, hermeneutics, and psychology all involve one aspect of meaning activities, while semiotics is a comprehensive discussion of meaning.
